CHIARA LUBICH to the MPPU
Political Culture
(…) There is a real vocation for politics. It is a personal call that emerges from circumstances and speaks through the conscience. Those who believe clearly hear the voice of God who assigns them a task.
But even those who do not believe feel called to it by the existence of a social need, by a weak category that asks for help, by a human right violated, by the desire to do good for their city or their nation. (…)

Chiara Lubich
to the Politics for Unity Movement
Chiara Lubich (1920-2008) is the founder of the Focolare Movement spread in 182 countries and the founder of the spirituality of unity. The aim is to contribute to the fulfilment of Jesus’ prayer: “That all may be one” (Jn 17:21).
A great charismatic figure of our times, she is known for her tireless action in favour of communion, fraternity and peace among people of different Churches, faithful of many religions and also among those who do not recognize themselves in a precise religious belief.
The spirit of the Focolare aims to bring a new way of life also in the civil, economic, and political fields. Many honorary degrees were awarded to Chiara Lubich by international academic institutions, in a wide variety of disciplines: theology, philosophy, psychology, economics, and social sciences.
Bound by friendship with Popes, heads of churches and founders of other Movements, and both political and civil personalities, Chiara Lubich has left an immense legacy that never ceases to inspire people and societies across the globe. In 2015 the cause of beatification and canonization was opened, which is currently in the diocesan phase.
