The International award Carlo Magno 2014 has been conferred to the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, for his contribution to Europe’s unity and for his “ability to find a shared solution” in situations of conflict.
The International Award Carlo Magno – Internationaler Karlspreis – is one of the most important European awards and is given annually to individuals with particular merits in favor of European integration.
Award receivers from 1950 have been: Konrad Adenauer (1954), King Juan Carlos I. (1982), Francois Mitterand , Helmut Kohl (1988), Václav Havel (1991), Regina Beatrix (1996), Bill Clinton (2000), Jean – Claude Juncker (2006), Angela Merkel (2008) , Jean – Claude Trichet (2011). In 2004 Pope John Paul II received the ‘ Extraordinary Karlspreis.’
