Integration. The rule of peace

Interview with Pasquale Ferrara.

Today we’re living through a global transformation in various ambits of human activity. We are also faced with the prospect of a transfer of power  to a world which is becoming less western. In the eyes of universal brotherhood, every nation, every people and every citizen is indispensable. As a consequence, the commitment for integration has to  be firmly put on the agenda there where it seems impossible. Integration can lead the way to peace wherever there is conflict.

The Courage of Peace

An interview with Margaret Karram of the Christian delegation, the only female voice at the ‘invocation for peace’ prayer made together by Pope Francis, Patriarch Bartholomew 1, Shimon Peres and Abu Mazen, 8 June 2014, a date to be remembered.

MKarramMargaret is an Arab Christian born in Israel. She received the Mount Zion 2013 prize, together with Yisca Harani, a Jew, for “the important contribution to the development of dialogue amongst religions and cultures in the Holy Land and to understanding between Jews, Christians and Muslims”. Margaret Karram, former member of the Episcopal Commission for Interreligious Dialogue of the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of the Holy Land and collaborator with the directorate of the Interreligious Coordinating Council in Israel (ICCI), is now at the International Centre of the Focolare Movement and it was she who read the prayer of St Francis in the Christian section of the invocation for peace instigated by the Bishop of Rome with Shimon Peres and Abu Mazen, with the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew 1 also present. We report parts of the interview she gave to Victoria Gomez of Citta Nuova.

United Kingdom Independence Party could be a surprise in EU elections

By Frank Johnson.

This year’s EU elections, as far as the United Kingdom is concerned, are about how many voters turn to the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP). UKIP has been increasing in popularity and current polls show that between 20% and 25% of the UK electorate intend to vote for them. UKIP gained popularity on a wave of anti-EU and anti-immigration sentiment in last year's local elections, and has grown faster than any competitor to the UK’s three major parties since the Second World War.

Competitors or neighbors

By Lori Chesser (United States).
As an immigration attorney for more than 20 years, I have seen the good and the bad of our current laws and policies. I have worked with people from many countries and walks of life; it would be surprising to find a situation or perspective I have not encountered. On the other hand, immigration is seen in diverse manners. Do we need more immigrants? And how should we decide who can come and who not? I want to offer some reflections on questions a lot of people might ask that can be useful in the current discussion.
